Saving energy often means saving money and for most companies this is always high on their priorities. As process equipment engineers we constantly look to improve not only our equipment but how it functions especially when it comes to reducing energy and process times.
Dedicated Research and Development
Spooner invests in research and development so that we can pass on our discoveries to our customers. Through reviewing and researching energy losses from ovens we were able to design a heat recovery system that helped both reduce energy usage and lower running costs. But we didn’t just stop there, Spooner’s dedicated R&D department found through testing that large amounts of energy was wasted in the re-heating of the conveyor at the entry of the oven. Research showed that a typical chain drive slat conveyor would exit the oven at 220°C and enter at 110°C, meaning a loss of 110°C.
Integrated Terminal Ends

To overcome this unnecessary loss our design and R&D teams designed a fully integrated oven terminal end that enclosed the conveyor within the oven body. By doing this the conveyor will always be at the right temperature for baking without using unnecessary energy. On an 8,000 LPH plant our integrated terminal ends eliminated energy loss and saved up to 13% on gas. The design uses high temperature components installed in the oven drive as well as Spooner designed adapted loaders and unloaders to automate the process.
